Adolph was the seventh of eleven children (two did not survive childhood). His parents, Benno Stich and Malvina Mary "Mallie" (Byrne) Stich were married in 1899. Benno was killed in a coal mining accident when Adolph was 9 years old. "Mallie" raised the nine children by herself though she would remarry late in life.

Adolph was a barber in Carrolltown PA before he married and moved to Loretto where he would live the remainder of his life.
