My gggrandmother, Mary Elizabeth Rey Stewart, married Henry Peter Rey, a frenchman, in 1858 in Batesville, AR. They had two sons, one that died at 1 year and my great grandfather, Charles Edward Rey born February 4, 1862 in Batesville.

Due to the Civil War, Henry Peter Rey, Mary Elizabeth Rey Stewart and son Charles Edward Rey left for France where Henry Peter Rey died about 1865. Mary married a second time to William Henry Stewart, an English Chemist, and lived in Paris, France until the Franco-Prussian war required them to move to London, England.

Mary coresponded with her sisters regularly writing of Paris, the countryside, her son William G Stewart and her bout with consumption, which she said was what killed her mother. She died of the disease in 1876 and was buried in a Catholic Cemetery in London.
