Pattie S. Clayton

MORTON - Pattie S. Clayton, age 86, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, in Lubbock, Texas.

Pattie was born May 17, 1927, in Wellington, Texas, to Chester Calhoun and Inez (Lewis) Stinson. She was one of eight children. The family moved to a farm south of Sudan, where she started to school in 1933. In 1941 the family moved to Morton, where she graduated from high school in 1944. She attended Draughon's Business College after graduation. Her mother became ill in 1945, and she left school to help care for her.

She married Jessie Clayton in 1947. They settled in Morton where they farmed, raised their family and were very active in the community. There were lots of family gatherings which included camping, water sports and fishing. She participated as Camp Fire Girl Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, and 4-H group leader with all of her children. She was president of the YM Study Club in 1977. She worked in several offices in the community including Asst. County Clerk and City of Morton.

After retiring she became very involved in the Cochran County Historical Museum and the Buffalo Soldiers. And when time allowed she played bridge and dominoes with friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Jessie; son, Phillip; and stepdaughter, Norma Walker.

She is survived by children, Sharon Kemp of San Antonio, Dennis and Debbie Clayton of Weatherford, Randy and Connie Clayton of Littlefield; nine grandchildren, Laygatha, Rhonda, Grady, Shanda, Randa, Marcy, Candace, Michelle, Dustin and Bethany; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren; brothers, Leon Stinson of San Angelo, Bill Stinson of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Services will be Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, United Methodist Church of Morton, 419 W, Taylor, Morton, TX 79346 Burial will follow at Morton Memorial Cemetery. Memorials can be made to any hospice of choice.
