Leo VanSickle
Leo VanSickle, 77, of rural Edina, died Friday evening (Dec. 22, 1978) at 6:50 in a Kirksville hospital where he had been a patient since Nov. 16.
Born in Knox county on Oct. 10, 1901, he was the son of Peter G. and Nettie Modlin VanSickle. He married Nellie Mae Bowen. Later he married Mary Agatha Stephan Cardwell who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. James (Leta May) Binkley of Lewistown; one step-son, Junior Cardwell of rural Edina; one step-daughter, Mildred Struzzo of Kansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; one half-brother, Tom VanSickle of the state of California; one half-sister, Edith Davis of the state of Montana and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two half-sisters, Gladys Green and Elva Davis.
Mr. VanSickle had spent his entire life in Knox county with the exception of five years which were spent in Boise, Idaho. He was engaged in farming before his retirement.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Dec. 24, 1978) at two o'clock in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel, Edina.
The Rev. Jesse Flynn of Edina, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the IOOF cemetery at Hurdland.
Bearers will be his grandsons: Leroy Cardwell, Phillip Binkley, John Bradshaw, William Easterbrook, James Easterbrook and Carl Struzzo.
