A Hagerstown man was released on $1,500 bond Wednesday night after being charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of his sister late Tuesday night. He was charged in the death of his sister, Mrs. Connie Sue Balick, 23, of the same address, which occurred Tuesday in their parents' home. Police said that preliminary investigation showed that the shooting was accidental. They reported that Kridler was cleaning his 12-gauge shotgun and showing his sister how it operated when one barrel of the double barrel weapon apparently discharged. The shot struck Mrs. Balick in the upper part of the body killing her instantly. Her mother, Mrs. Anna Louise Kridler, called police.
Besides her brother, Mrs. Balick is survived by her parents, Albert and Anna Louise Longnecker Kridler; one daughter, Wendy R., at home and grandmother, Mrs. Lucille Kridler Charles of Hagerstown.
Services were held at the Minnich Funeral Home; burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
