Lawrence was single when he enlisted in the US Army on April 6, 1942 and was discharged on January 18, 1946, having served during World War II.
He was married to Ruth Scott (1916– ) and was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church and an employee at Chrysler Corporation.
Retired, Lawrence was 67 years old and married when he died October 31, 1980 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.
Survivors included his widow Ruth Scott Oldham, brothers James Oldham and Virgil Oldham in Clarksville and Henry Oldham of Dunn, North Carolina and sisters Eula DeSheles at Detroit and Carrie Sykes and Nora Rye in Cunningham, Tennessee.
Funeral Services were held on November 3rd at the chapel of Tarpley Funeral Home, and burial was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Clarksville.
