He was married 1st on July 21, 1944 in Jeffersonville, Georgia to Irene Ethel Avery (1923–1990). He was married 2nd to Imogene Elizabeth Keatts (1926–2008).
He had served in and was retired from the US Army and was a veterans employment representative. He was also a member of New Providence Baptist Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Mason.
Living in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee, Beckett was 84 years old and a widower when he passed away on October 17, 2004 at Gateway Medical Center.
Preceded in death by his 1st wife and by his daughter Faye Mitchell, he was survived by his 2nd wife Imogene, a daughter in Clarksville, a Armistead stepson and Armistead stepdaughter, sisters Maudine Carney in West Virginia and Alene Springer in Mississippi and four grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on October 20th at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home, and burial was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Clarksville, with Military Honors.
