After A Long Illness Mrs. John Barbour Dies
Mrs. John Barbour passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest McDonald, after a long illness.
Sarah Jane Dilley was born March 15, 1852, in Pennsylvania and when a little girl came to Illinois with her parents who settled in McHenry county, where they lived for several years, later coming to Lake county. Mrs. Barbour had resided for forty years in Libertyville. In November, 1870 she was united in marriage to John Barbour, who survives his wife.
To this union were born five children, four of whom survive: Mrs. Robert Lyons of Libertyville; Albert and William H. of Chicago, and Mrs. Ernest McDonald of Libertyville. The oldest son, James, passed away in 1893.
Seven sisters and one brother survive their sister, Mrs. Barbour’s death being the first in a family of nine children. They are: Mrs. Mary Miller of Woodstock; Albert Dilley, Dundee; Mrs. Theresa Templeton, Woodstock; Mrs. Lydia Dunbar and Mrs. Lottie Jackman of Fitzgerald, Ga., who are now in Libertyville; Mrs. Olive Barnes of Milwaukee; Mrs. Clara Griffin of Waukegan, and Mrs. Francis Smith of Gurnee, who is now critically ill.
Mrs. Barbour was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Libertyville. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home of her daughter, Mrs. McDonald, Rev. E. C. Morgan of the Presbyterian church officiated and was assisted by Rev. C. C. Hill of St. Lawrence Episcopal church. Burial took place at Lakeside cemetery.
