HURDLAND CHIPS.
OBITUARY.
Death has again visited us and taken from us one of our most esteemed citizens. Mr. David Tobin living four miles south of Hurdland, died Thursday morning, about 9 o'clock, of the malarial fever, leaving a wife and three little children to mourn for him.

Farewell, dear wife and loving brother,
Farewell, thy children dear.
Life is ended (Ah, how fleeting.)
Shed not for me the bitter tear.

Yes, I've crossed the dread, cold river,
The boatman grim did his part well,
And now from dear ones I am served,
Loved ones now farewell, farewell.
YANKEE.

GONE TO REST.
TO THE MEMORY OF DAVID TOBIN.
One more has departed
To heaven's bright shore,
Where sickness and sorrow
Are felt and feared no more.

A loved on has been taken
From our fond embrace,
No more to clasp his friendly hand
Or see his smiling face.

No more his welcome voice we'll hear,
No more his eye to meet,
No more the storms of life he'll fear —
His journey is complete.

But dear friends no longer weep,
He has joined those who've gone before,
For God spoke peace to his waiting soul
Ere he called him to the other shore.

Husband, father, brother, friend,
Farewell but not for ever,
We'll meet again when life shall end
Just beyond the river.

How sweet 'twill be in that land
So free from sorrow and pain,
With songs on our lips and harps in our hands
To meet one another again. — M. H.
