John Miller lived on Linville Creek in Augusta County, Virginia, in 1742 when he was on a muster roll of Augusta County Militia (Chalkley's Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish: pp.507-08: Copies of Musters of Augusta County).

VIRGINIA HISTORICAL MAGAZINE (1900), p.279:
MILITIA IN AUGUSTA COUNTY, 1742, by Lyman Draper:
Col. James Patton's Company, Wm. Beverly, Lieutenant; Beverly qualified as county lieutenant of Orange County and also of Augusta, at Orange court, November 3, 1741,
and Patton qualified as "colonel of Augusta county," May 27, 1742. Muster includes John Miller, also James Wright and James Robertson(Robinson) whose sons later married John Miller's daughters.

The Lincoln County, Kentucky home of Elizabeth Miller Isbell's brother Abraham Miller Sr. is still standing today at 3475 Kentucky Highway 300, Stanford, Kentucky. The house was said to have been built c1785, or 1785-1815 by Abraham Miller. Abraham Miller died by 1786, and it was afterward the home of Abraham Miller Jr., who "was a lieutenant in the War of 1812 and who died in 1834." It was likely Abraham Jr. who built the house. Some say Abraham Miller Jr. (1773-1827) married Sarah Givens and is the Abraham Miller at Find A Grave Memorial# 41962157.

Kentucky Records Series, vol. 28, by Michael L. Cook (1988): 23 June 1786, p.513:
"Upon the petition of James Davis and Deborah Davis his wife, and Abraham Miller the Younger, a minor, by the said James Davis his Guardian, it is ord'd that the Sheriff of Rockingham County summon to appear here on the ninth day of the next Supreme Court, John Thomas to prove the will of Abraham Miller the Elder, dec'd, and take upon himself the execution thereof, or show cause to the contrary. And also that the said Sheriff summon the said John Thomas and Jemima Thomas his wife, and that the Sheriff of Lincoln County summon Zachariah Isbell and Elizabeth Isbell his wife, Wm. Field and Mary Field his wife, and Hannah Robertson, legatees under the said will, to appear here on the same day to answer the petition of the said James, Deborah and Abraham exhibited against them. And it is further ord'd that the present Admrs do not pay away any legacy or legacies or any part thereof to any person whatever claiming the same until the further order of this court."
Virginia Supreme Court, District of Kentucky, Order Books 1783-1792: Estate of Abraham Miller: 23 June 1786, page 513. (Kentucky Records Series, vol. 28, by Michael L. Cook [1988].)
