James graduated from RHS [Roseburg High School] in 1965 and then graduated L.C.C [Lane Community College] with an AA degree in science. He was the Electrical/HVAC and R shop leader at the Roseburg VA Medical Center.

James was a Vietnam Vet and served with the US Navy Seabees from 1966 to 1969. During this time he received the Vietnam Service, Campaign, National Defense Service Medals.

He then transferred to the U.S. Air Force in 1985 and he worked up to the Chief Master Sgt in the 939th CES Air Force Reserve.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, dune bugging, and landscape architecture. He was active in Boy Scouts of America, and numerous veteran events including the Vietnam traveling wall. He also attended Glide Baptist Church.

James is survived by his wife, Lois E Bell; sons: Michael and his wife Bonnie; Christoper and his wife Heather Bell; mother, Louise Bell of Roseburg; sister, Gwen Smith of Roseburg; grandchildren: Timothy and Jessica; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, James F Bell Sr. and brother, Randy Bell.

A memorial service will be held at Glide Baptist Church on Monday, November 11, at noon.
