She married George A. Taylor on April 13, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were later divorced. She was a member of the LDS Church. She worked for Holcraft Insurance Adjusters, stopped to raise her family, returned to Holcraft, Ogden First Federal Savings and Loan and Western Zirconium. She retired in 1996.
Irene spent 35 years in the square dancing community, mostly with the Single Swingers. She held many positions in that club and with NUSDA.
Irene loved to sew, do crafts, garden, plan parties and send birthday cards. In her later years, she became involved with the H2U at Ogden Regional Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Debra (Steven) McCormick, So. Ogden; three sons, Brad (Riverdale), Bart (SLC) and Brett (Riverdale); 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Floyd DeGroot.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden Utah.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
Interment will be at Leavitt's Aultorest Memorial Park.
