Daughter of William (Hopping Billy) Marion Alexander and Celia Boon Alexander.

Nancy was left a widow in 1863 when her husband was killed in battle in Jackson, Missippi. She had nine very young children at that time, Sarah, Nerva, Mary A., Louisa, Nancy, Josie, Bill, James and Jane. She passed away in 1865 of unknown cause at this time. Her children were sent to various relatives to live until they could go out on their own.
