SPARTANBURG, SC-- Helen Russell Bunn Whitley, 86, formerly of Concord, NC, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010 in Spartanburg, SC.
Mrs. Whitley was born in Union County on September 24, 1924, the daughter of the late Ella Austin Russell and Isaac Lee Russell. She was educated in the Union County School system.

Mrs. Whitley married Hugh Patterson Bunn who preceded her in death in 1981. She later married Claude Alex Whitley, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2001; three sisters and three brothers also preceded her in death, Mae Braswell, Virginia Eaves, Mildred Garland, Frank Russell, James Russell, and Horace Russell.

She worked for Ritchie Hardware as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1980. In the past she enjoyed her family and friends at Lake Tillery, playing bridge, and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Whitley was an active member of Forest Hill United Methodist Church and Circle #3 until her disability.

She is survived by her son, and a daughter-in-law; her daughter; four grandchildren; and two sisters. (Names of living removed for privacy.)

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Forest Hill United Methodist Church Historic Sanctuary, officiated by Rev. David C. Hockett. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund, 265 Union Street N, Concord, NC 28025.
