Mary Grubaugh (Grubough-Groughbough) was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in 1807 and spent her early life as a pioneer in the forests of Ohio. Her father George William Grubaugh was a great, brave soldier of the war of 1812 having served through the entire war without injury or sickness only to be killed in an accident crossing a ditch returning home. She was noted for her great industry and devotion to the large family which she reared to adult age. She was a sister of Margaret Grubaugh who married John A. Kearns.
