WARE SHOALS - Boyce P. Lancaster, Jr., Registered Pharmacist, went to join his Savior, Jesus Christ on November 1, 2013 and to reunite with his deceased wife of 66 years, Montine Hite Lancaster, who died earlier this year.

Born on January 27, 1927 in Union County, SC, he was the son of the late Boyce P., Sr. and Alice Sams Lancaster. He was a veteran of the US Navy from World War II.

Mr. Lancaster owned and operated West End Drugs, Inc. in Ware Shoals for some 49 years and prior to coming to Ware Shoals, he worked as a pharmacist in Union County and in Columbia. He graduated from the School of Pharmacy at the University of South Carolina in 1954.

Mr. Lancaster was very active in the churches where he lived. He was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church since 1961. During his membership there, he was a Deacon for many years, taught Sunday School in the Garner Memorial Men's Class for 42 years and was the Training Union Director for many years. During this time, he also served in many other capacities in the church.

He was awarded the order of the Silver Crescent (second highest award by the state of SC) by Governor Mark Sanford for his unselfish and devoted service to the people of Ware Shoals whom he loved deeply. His compassion for his neighbors, friends, and customers was shown everyday. He often opened his store to fill prescriptions, even in the wee hours of the morning. He extended credit so people could afford their medicines. He was an exemplary example to his family, neighbors and strangers of how to be and what it means to be a Christian.

He is survived by a son, Steve Lancaster (Vivian) of Waterloo; two daughters, Judy Henderson (Stan) of Waterloo and Jean Crawford (Joel) of Ware Shoals. He is also survived by grandchildren, Charlie Lancaster (Tasha) of Waterloo, Dawn Manley (Mac) of Surfside Beach, Adam Henderson (Rebecca) of Beaufort, Leslie Werts (Jeff) of Ninety Six, Brett Henderson of Waterloo, Maggie and Haley Jameson of Ware Shoals and two great-granddaughters, Kaytie Lancaster and Autumn Werts. He also leaves behind two sisters, Evelyn Vaughn (Charles) of Anderson and Jacquelyn Roach (Ernest) of Rock Hill. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Benjamin and Mortimer Lancaster, and a granddaughter, Alyssa Grace Crawford.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov 5, 2013 at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Charlie and Rhett Lancaster, Adam and Brett Henderson, Everette Gallman, Grady Stickland and Dan Branyon. Honorary pallbearers will be members and past members of the Garner Memorial Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parker-White Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, Box 449, Ware Shoals, SC 29692 or to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
