VOLKERT EDWARD BACHERT, 88, passed away on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Hospice Home. Born in Fort Wayne, Ed work ed as a painter and decorator for 47 years, retiring in 1990. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran; member of American Legion Post 241; and 50 year member of the Fort Wayne Sports Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, Fort Wayne Sports Club and the American Legion. Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Ann (Bill) Schuhler of Fort Wayne; son, John E. (Julie McCarthy) Bachert of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Brad Schuhler, Amy (Adam) Mains, Tonya Windsor, Ryan (Stephanie) Bachert, Kyle (Becky) Bachert, and Evan Bachert; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Hildegard A. Bachert; and parents, Edward and Wilhelmine Bachert. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Steve Conner officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
