Pearl Egolf MacDougall, daughter
of newspaper founder, dies at 98
Mrs. Pearl (Taylor) Egolf MacDougall, 98, widow of Joseph MacDougall, Ocean City, N.J., former Pottstown resident died Thursday afternoon in Ocean City after a three-year illness.
Born in Pottstown, she was a daughter of Thomas and Lillian (Kerper) Taylor. Her father founded the Pottstown Daily News in 1887, which later was purchased by the Mercury in 1933.
Her son George L. "Bud" Egolf, was former advertising manager of The Mercury. He died in September, 1973.
She was formerly married to the late George L. Egolf, Sr.
Mrs. MacDougall was a resident of Pottstown 75 years until she moved to Ocean City 24 years ago.
She was a former member Christ Episcopal Church.
She is the last of her immediate family.
Private graveside services will be Saturday in Pottstown West End Cemetery with the Rev. Wilfred F. Penny, rector of Christ Episcopal Church officiating.
