RICHARD COURTLAND ANDRES died peacefully on October 28, 2013. Born May 20, 1925, to BRUCE ANDRES married to RUTH GOODRICH, in Logansport, IN, Richard attended schools in Kansas City and Pittsburgh. His family had a cottage on Lake James in Angola, IN, where he spent his summers. Richard (known as Ernie or RC to his friends) played varsity basketball, ran track, and golfed in high school. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in WWII until age 21. He attended Allegheny College on the GI bill and graduated in 1949 with a degree in economics. He then obtained an MBA from the University of Indiana, majoring in marketing. He married MARGARET OWENS, whom he met at Lake James, on December 30, 1950, just prior to graduation. They started their life together in Cincinnati, OH, where Richard worked, and their son Robert was born in 1952. They moved to Pittsburgh in 1954 after their daughter SUSAN was born. Richard worked for GM, Koppers, and Rockwell in marketing until he started his own marketing firm (Marketing Service Associates) in 1961. He sold the firm in about 1993, but continued working on an emeritus basis for a few more years. Outside the work arena, Richard had two intense interests: music and sports. He sang in church choirs and barbershop quartets, played boogie-woogie piano by ear, and was always corralling his kids to listen to music with him – from classical to bluegrass to the Rolling Stones. As for sports – besides playing hoops through college, he was a scratch golfer, playing on the amateur circuit as a young man, winning the club championship at Valleybrook Country Club in Pittsburgh, and winning the Southern States Senior Amateur tournament. He taught his children how to play golf, and he always found time to throw the ball around or shoot some hoops with his son. He was an avid fan – he and Margaret were in attendance at the seventh game of the World Series in 1960, and he continued as a Steelers and Pirates fan. He was a kind and generous father and grandfather with a strong sense of what should be done, and high expectations for all. Richard was pre-deceased by the love of his life, Margaret, five months ago and by his twin brother Robert Andres. He is survived by his son Robert Andres and his wife Rachel of Pelham, MA, his daughter Susan Devlin and her husband Curt of Mt. Lebanon, PA, and his grandkids (to whom he was known as Poppop) Ian and Kristin Andres, and Brian and Danny Devlin. He is also survived by his twin brother's wife Zelma. Graveside Services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Indiana. Richard will be buried with his ancestors in a family plot at Circle Hill Cemetery.
