Abiel Booth Staples was a brickmaker in Taunton, Massachusetts. His brickyard was one of several small brickyards in Taunton, on the Taunton River, which empties into Mount Hope Bay and Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island.
The clay left over from the receding glaciers was superior for brick making. This location was important because barges could take the bricks down the Taunton River and then out to New York, CT, or Massachusetts.
