Lloyd Lester Bland, 94, Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at Carmel Hills Living Center in Independence, Mo.

Mr. Bland was born March 15, 1910, in Kansas City, Mo., the eldest son of James Lafayette and Aurora (Silvers) Bland. During his lifetime, he resided in Dallas, Texas, Kansas City, Independence and Blue Springs. He attended Central High School in Kansas City, and later in life completed three years of college at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He was employed in 1926 with Commerce Bank, which began his lifelong career in the accounting profession. He also was an appointee-minister for the RLDS Church, and served many years on the Church's Standing High Council. He retired as a self-employed CPA and owner of an advertising agency.

He married Dorothy Helen Carmichael in 1933, who preceded him in death in 1985. His two brothers, Erwin Stanley Bland and Hugh Farris Bland, and sister, Goldie May Bland Rose, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Bland was a charter member of the Independence Gem and Mineral Society and the Independence Knife and Fork Club. He also held membership and leadership positions in several organizations, including the Good Government League, Toastmaster Club, American Hospital Accountants Association, Independence Lions Club, Independence and Blue Springs Chambers of Commerce, Native Sons of Greater Kansas City, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of the RLDS Stone Church and attended Blue Springs Christian Church.
His survivors include his wife of 15 years, Julia Mae Botts Bland of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy June and Dennis Dean Falconer, a son, David Carmichael Bland and wife, Joan Paul Toomey Bland, all of Independence; a grandson, Dana Joe Falconer of Fraser, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence, (816) 373-3600. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Sunshine Center School, 607 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, Mo. 64050.
