Charles Nicholas Thummel, 79, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at his home in Thayer.

Charles was born in Tipton, Kansas on July 13, 1932, the son of Joseph and Anna (Simeon) Thummel. He attended Piqua schools.He was united in marriage to Dorotha L.White on September 14, 1970 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

Charles owned Thummel Lumber Company and was also a Cattleman.He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, Knights of Columbus, Mid-America Lumberman Association, National Cattleman's Association, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Along with his wife Dorotha, he is survived by his children, Marsha S. Bogle and her husband Mark of Chanute, Joni Y. Thummel of Humboldt, Rodney C. Thummel and his wife Kay of Yates Center, Clifford C. Thummel and his wife Tresha of Humboldt, Oliver F. Bunker and his wife Jo of Chanute, and Bryan C. Thummel and his wife Jessica of Thayer; twelve grandchildren, Rebekah Thummel, Serah Thummel, Timothy Thummel and his wife Kyra, Tabrenah Thummel, Heath Scheibmeir and his wife Aurie, Zeb Scheibmeir and his wife Chera, Dustin Bunker, Mikal Berthot and her husband Michael, Aaron Neitfeld and his wife Faith, Erica Phillips and her husband Brian, Jess Bogle, and Megan Gann and her husband Matt; eleven great-grandchildren, Oliver Thummel, Daniel, Corinne and Kira Scheibmeir, Adrianne Morrison, Asia Larsen, Jade Neitfeld, Austin Neitfeld, Alec Berthot, Eric Phillips, and Joseph Gann;

a sister, Rozella Koester of Chanute, and a brother, Leo Thummel of Iola.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Veronica Thummel, Bertha Henning, Mary Wentz, Ann Greiner, and Clara Thummel; three brothers. Joe Thummel, George Thummel and Vincent Thummel; and a grandson, Joe Bogle.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Chanute. Burial will follow at 11:45 a.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery in Piqua.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, followed by Rosary at 7:45 p.m.Memorials in his name may be made to Harry Hynes Hospice of Coffeyville and may be left with the funeral home.Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
