Born and raised on a farm in Iowa, went west to Wyoming via train as a "Hobo". There he became a true American Cowboy, riding the range on his cousin's ranch, "the Snowshoe". After returning to Iowa, he was a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol during WWII. A genuine Renaissance man, Wally performed many jobs very well, from projectionist at the Zearing, IA theater and circuit theater for outlying towns and communities, to maintaining the home farm. He was a master tin-smith, milk-man, radio singing D.J., photographer and he also built many of the homes in the Valley of the Sun as a journeyman carpenter, before becoming disabled in the late 60's. Wally loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing and camping. He also loved to collect stones and fossils for his lapidary work. Some of his happiest moments were in his rock shop, cutting and polishing semi-precious stone. He was--and remains--a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend to all whose lives he touched.
On 4 June 1935, he married Vilda Mary Adams, b. 18 May 1915 in Bondurant, Polk county, Iowa. They had four children together; Mary Ellenor b. 18 Mar 1936, Jack Edward b. 7 May 1943, Alan Grant b. 6 Nov 1947 and Thomas Martin b. 8 Jan 1954,eleven grandchildren, Verlyn Lois Slocum, Roger Dean Slocum II, Janette Ruth Slocum, Theresa Lynn Adams, Tonya Kaye Adams, Michael Edward Adams, Deborah Elaine Adams, Melissa Ann Adams, Jesse Matthew Birch Adams, Joshua Martin Sky Adams and Amanda Li Diane Adams as well as several great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Theron Edward and Lena (Dunwoody) Adams, his only brother, Martin Russell Adams and one Granddaughter, Tonya Kaye Adams.
