Suggested edit: Professional wrestler Jack LaRue, 63, dies

Bill White, 63, Jay, Okla., known professionally as Jack LaRue, died of an apparent heart attack about noon Wednesday at his home.

Mr. LaRue, who had visited Bloomington to see his nieces, Susan and Amy Lentz, 1206 Elmwood Road, and Debbie Allen, 906 Parmon Road, was a professional wrestler. It was a field he entered as an 18 year-old and didn't leave until a previous heart attack sidelined him at age 40.

In a career that went from exhibitions on the county fair circuit to feature bouts in foreign countries, LaRue grew with the job.

He wrestled for dimes when he began challenging fans to two minutes in the ring. But when he retired, he was making as much in a year as some people do in a lifetime and was traveling the world.

He made headlines Jan. 26, 1941, when he married Cecilia Bleavins, a popular woman wrestler of the day. He was a televions personality when wrestling was a prime-time hit in the early '50s.

He was born Dec., 3, 1917, in Rock Island, a son of Gerald W. and Nellie Cerryholmes White.

A graveside service will be Saturday in Eucha, Okla.
