Alexander Michie was born at Auldtown of Carnoussie, Forglen, Banffshire, Scotland. His father was a farm overseer. His father moved the family to a croft in Marnoch Parish before 1851. In 1871 Alexander is found with wife Ann on a farm in Braefoot of Clunie, Marnoch Parish, where he continued operations through his active life.
He died at 15 South Street, Aberchider, Marnoch Parish, of cancer on his temple and syncope (fainting due to insufficient blood flow to brain). Informant for his death record was Wiilliam Legge - Son-in-law, Present, husband of daughter Ann.
Seven of their children immigrated to the United States, settling in New York, Michigan, Illinois, Montana and Washington.
