Jean Hilton Snyder Stevens, 85, of Ephrata Manor, Ephrata, and formerly of 224 Swarthmore Drive, Lititz, died Monday at the retirement home after a brief illness. Mrs. Stevens graduated from the former Stevens High School for Girls in 1935 and the Millersville State Teachers College in 1938. She taught at the former Haupt Elementary School in Lancaster. She was a member of the Millersville University Alumni Association. A professional organist and pianist, she played at Bethany Presbyterian and St. Andrew United Church of Christ. While a member of St. Andrew, she taught Sunday school and was president of the Mother's Club. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Lititz. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Abram Herr and M. Jennie Hilton Snyder. She was married to Richard I. Stevens Sr., for 56 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Karen L. Stevens of Lititz; a son, Richard I. Stevens Jr. of Harrisburg; and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna E. Snyder. (Lancaster New Era - Apr 16, 2003)
