Phyllis Overlade Brewer passed away October 27, 2013.

She was born December 3, 1922 in Provo, Utah to parents Linford O. and Ada Fillmore Overlade.

She was reared in Helper, Carbon County, Utah and graduated from Carbon High School. She was offered a full music scholarship to Duke University but declined for her family's sake.

During her school years, Phyllis played the clarinet in the band, orchestra and special groups. She also sang in choruses, operettas and special groups. She was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for thirteen years and was a member of the Southern Utah Heritage Choir for over nine years.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having twice served as a Relief Society President, also Young Women's President and Choir Director in the Washington 3rd Ward, Buena Vista Ward and St. George 2nd Ward.

Music was a great part of her life and she enjoyed performing as well as listening to good music. One of her favorite things was to sing with her father at funerals, weddings and other functions.

She married Robert Vowels February 26, 1983. They filled a full-time mission in the California Anaheim Mission from May 1984 to November 1985. From June 1991 to June 1994, Phyllis and Robert were managers of the St. George LDS Temple Apartments. They were divorced in 2002.

She married Melvin L. Brewer August 16, 2003, and he survives her.

Phyllis is survived by three wonderful children: Dennis (Pam) Aguirre, Marcia (Barry) Henderson and David (Annette) Clegg; four much loved step-children from the Brewer marriage: Betsy (Joseph) Jenkins, Linda (David) Szelowski, Gladys (Michael) Marietti and Mervin (Sandy) Brewer; and nine special step-children and their families from the Vowels marriage.
