KERRVILLE - Robert L. Overmyer, 89, of Kerrville, Texas, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, of complications from diabetes at a local hospital.
Robert was born in Lindsey, Ohio, April 10, 1917, to Newton and Mary Rozella Overmyer. He had twin brothers and one sister and was the youngest of the family. He attended school in Elmore, Ohio. As an adult he was a dairy farmer and also raised agricultural crops. He ran a bulk milk route along with his farming for many years. Later he worked for the County until his retirement in 1979.
He married Lucretia Lanum in September 1937. There were two children from this marriage, Terry Overmyer and Barbara Kocher. They made their home on a farm in Elmore, Ohio, until 1981, when they moved to Kerrville. Their home was in Greenwood Forest. Lucretia passed away in 1997.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where he was an active member of the church choir until failing health did not permit him to continue. He also sang with the men's chorus in Kerrville. One of his enjoyments in life was playing golf with friends. He belonged to several
bridge clubs.
In November, 1998, he married Laura McCormick at St. Paul's. The ceremony was performed by Dr. John Platt at which time Laura also became a member of St. Paul's. From this marriage he gained two more daughters and a son, Linda McEachern, Sandra Jenschke and Gary McCormick.
Robert and Laura enjoyed seven years and eight months traveling, bridge clubs, concerts, moviesand church functions. They built a new home in Vicksburg Village in 2001, where they participated in swimming and different functions at the club house.
Robert became ill in October, 2005, and moved to Alpine Terrace to receive therapy. He was dearly loved by all the staff and caregivers at Alpine. He resided there until July, 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, first wife, son and grandson. Robert is survived by his wife Laura; daughter Barbara Kocher (Wesley) of Crosby, North Dakota; stepchildren Linda McEachern (Don) of San Antonio, Texas and Sandra Jenschke (Travis) of Fredericksburg,
Texas, and Gary McCormick (Terry) of Ingram, Texas; Sister, Cressida Fulkert of Sarsota, Florida; grandchildren, LuAnn Unhjem (Kent) of Crosby, North Dakota, Kurt Kocher (Anjelika) of Crosby, North Dakota, Dale Kocher (Lynelle) of Champlin, Minnesota, Kenneth Kocher (Beth) of Zionsville, Indiana, Matt Hesselbart (Miriam) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada , Bret Overmyer of Denver, Colorado, Dawn Penrod of Florence, Colorado, Jackie Hartwell of Calhan, Colorado, Michelle Clement (Kevin) of Florence, Colorado, Josh McCormick, Jason McCormick of Kerrville, Texas, Tiffany Klaerner (Leslie) of Mason, Texas, Bridget Klein (Woody) of Fredericksburg, Texas, Barret Jenschke of Temple, Texas, Casey Jansen (Michael) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kelly McEachern of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are 43 great-grandchildren. Bob's wonderful personality, his cheerful smile and laugh will be missed by all his family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 135 Methodist Encampment Road, Kerrville, Texas, with Sherry Strain, pastor, and the Rev.. Tom Price, assisting.
Committal services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Funeral services are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
