KERRVILLE — Services for Joe D. Abercrombie, 64, of Kerrville, who died Tuesday at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Silliman and the Rev. John Plait officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville. Born July 15, 1926 in Houston, Mr. Abercrombie served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was raised in the Houston area for many years and was the son of the late Joe Rice Abercrombie and Dorothy Dick Abercrombie. The Abercrombie family were pioneers in the Texas oil business and have made many contributions to the Houston community. Mr. Abercrombie was a graduate of the University of Texas and did his post-graduate work at the University of Houston. He was a psychologist at the LaHacienda Treatment Center in Hunt for 18 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He married Catherine Murphy on June 17,1972 in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives. Other survivors include seven children, Cynthia Ann Abercrombie of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Jodie Abercrombie Combs of Houston, Richard James Abercrombie of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Lindy Cardenas of San Antonio, Cathleen R. Looney of Houston, Caroline L. Becker of Corpus Christi, and Christina L. Abercrombie of Kerrville; eight grandchildren, Holly Elizabeth Hamblet, Kristen Michelle Hamblet, Kelly Lynn Combs, James Andrew Combs, Angelia Louise Abercrombie, Christopher Andrew Cardenas, Joseph Michael Cardenas, and Matthew Casey Cardenas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kerrville Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.
