Mr. David J. "Dave" Baris, age 62, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side, after a courageous battle.
Born in Utica on February 25, 1951, David was the son of the late Philip A., Sr. and Mary (Kallassy) Baris. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. He continued his studies at M.V.C.C. where he received his Associates Degree in Electronics. At one time, he was married to the former Linda Juckett.
For a number of years, Dave worked as an electrician at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, the position from which he retired in 2012. In looking back, Dave would be characterized as diligent, courageous, and resilient; his captivating smile electrified a room. He had a penchant for all genres of music and he was passionate about his hobbies and activities including car shows, boats, and his Harley Davidson. During his spare time, he utilized his aptitude for operating and repairing computers.
Dave is survived by his daughter, Dawn M. Baris and fiancé Joseph A. Colangelo of Rome; his sons, David M. Baris, and Christopher S. Baris, both of Utica; and his grandchildren, Christian D. Baris, and Adreanna M. Baris. He also leaves his brother, Philip Baris, Jr. of Utica; nephews, cousins, and friends Nancy Sportello, Alex Pollard Jr., Dave Wood, John Dote, Dave Loudon, Dave Secor, Robbie Ambrose, Dominick Massita, Louise Burger, and Jim Ferris; and his co-workers at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was predeceased by his sister, Phyllis Goodman; his niece, Michelle Goodman, and his good friend, Ronnie Burger.
Dave's family extends sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the 2nd and 6th floors at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center and the Emergency Room personnel for all their care and attention. A special acknowledgement is extended to his dear friend, Nancy Sportello, who has remained by his side throughout his journey.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dave's funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday morning at 10:00 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church where his Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Rev. Miled Jreig. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be considered to the American Cancer Society; envelopes will be available at the church. Interment will take place graveside at Calvary Cemetery.
