Dr. Charles Straub Brown, MD - Nashville Age 97, Kama'aina, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully at his Nashville, TN home, October 20, 2013, from natural causes. Preceded in death by his parents Charles Pickney Brown and Carrie Denize Borges Brown. Preceded also, by his partner of 43 years, the exceptionally talented Wallace (Wally) Wayne Holt. He is survived by his cousin, Antoinette (Nettie) Boucher and other distant cousins. Importantly also, by his beloved cat of 15 years, Lilly. Other surviving friends include: brother-in-law, Darrell Holt, Bill Kleinenbroich, Louie Xigogianis, David Penhallow, Barry Peterson, Steve Baugh, Mike White, Chrissie McClure and Alice Crafts. Special thanks to his long time care-giver Punnee (Lek) Kotchasi Reyes. Thank you Lek for your boundless love. Also great thanks to Willowbrook Hospice.

Charles graduated from Roosevelt High School and later received his B.S. from Stanford University, and his M.D. from Oregon State. He did post-graduate work at both the U.S. Naval Academy and Harvard University. He practiced medicine for 35 year as an internist in Waikiki. He was a veteran of WWII, serving at Pearl Harbor, at the time of the bombing, and later in New Caledonia, Melanesia. He was an exceptional person, was a "foodie", long before the word was coined, loved classical music and the opera. He travelled all over the world, but always loved his home - Hawaii.
No funeral will be held. Cremation will be attended by friends with internment in Oahu Cemetery.
