William John Sovern, was born in Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., IN, 3 Sep 1861, but left home at the tender age of 13 to make his way in the world. While still a very young man he traveled to Oregon, where he led a colorful life as a stage driver, gold prospector, ranch owner, and in his later years, a streetcar conductor. He married Addie Rosalie Smyth (b. 23 Dec 1861, Noble Co., OH, d. 20 Feb 1931, Portland, Oregon) in Prineville, Oregon, on 4 Nov 1888. They had 4 children: Mary, Tom, Pearl, and Grace. William died in Portland, Oregon, on 11 Mar 1949 at age 88.
His sister was Ella M. (Sovern) Benner Chamberlain.48245226
