Mrs. Sarah J. Trask died Tuesday at her home in North Portland. She was born 21 August 1865, in Minersville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Sarah married Herbert Presby Trask, 21 August 1881, in Klickitat County, Washington. Her maiden name was Bateman. She raised 12 of her 13 children to maturity.

In 1870, Sarah, at age 4, and her sister Ann, age 1 year, lived with their mother Mary J. Bateman, in the home of James and Abigail Glidewell. They lived in Davidson, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. Ten years later, in 1880, the census showed Mary was married to William Bennet, and they were living in Klickitat County, Washington. Sarah J. Bateman and Annie G. Bateman, were listed as William's step-daughters.

Sarah, Herbert, and their children, were first listed on the State of Washington & Territorial census for 1892, in Klickitat County, Washington. They remained there through 1900. The census records for 1910 and 1920 show Sarah, Herbert and their children living in Bay City, Pacific County, Washington. In 1930 and 1940 they were in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.

In 1892, Sarah and Herbert Trask had 5 children: George, age 10; Martha, age 8; Pearl, age 6; Libby, age 3; Harry, age 1. All the children were born in Washington.

In 1900, Sarah was listed as married, age 33, born August 1866, in Pennsylvania. Her husband, Herbert Trask, was a farmer, age 46, born Feb. 1854 in New Hampshire. Sarah had given birth to 9 children, all 9 were living in the household, and all had been born in Washington.

Sarah was a homemaker and member of the Centenary-Wilbur Methodist church, the Mt. Hood chapter No. 144 of OES, Lavender club, WCTU, Evening Star grange of Portland and Pennsylvania club of Portland.

Herbert Trask, died 15 October 1920, and is buried in Portland. Sarah's son, Harry W. Trask, and his children Roy H. and Norma E., were listed in her household in 1930 & 1940.

Sarah was survived by eleven of her children, 32 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

The funeral service for Sarah was Friday, at Colonial mortuary. Rev. J. T. Ralph Johnson, pastor of Centenary-Wilbur Methodist church, officiated. Entombment was at Lincoln Memorial Park mausoleum.
