Andrew William Bennett, a former longtime resident of the Monterey Peninsula, died yesterday at Watsonville Community Hospital after a period of failing health. He was 81. Mr. Bennett was born Aug. 3, 1894, in Indiana. He was a veteran of World War II and remained in Monterey after his discharge in 1920, residing here until 1944, when he moved to Carmel Valley. He became a resident of Watsonville in 1974. He was a foreman with Pacific Gas and Electric Co. in the Monterey area, retiring in 1959 after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 5679, Seaside; Pacific Grove Lodge No. 331, F&AM, and the Scottish Rite Consistory, San Jose. He is survived by his wife, Fairy Bennet of Watsonville; daughters, Mrs. Sue S. Casterline of Carmel Valley, and Mrs. Lorelei Jensen of Seaside; a sister, Mrs. Alta Walton and a brother, John Bennet, both of Indiana, and four grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at The Paul Mortuary Chapel with the rev. Dave Wood of the First Baptist Church, Watsonville, and the Pacific Grove Masonic Lodge officiating. Burial will follow at El Carmelo Cemetery, Pacific Grove. Contributions are preferred to the First Baptist Church of Watsonville, for the music department.
