U.S. Congressman. After completing preparatory medical studies, he graduated from the medical department of Transylvania University, 1827 and began a medical practice in Hartford, Kentucky. Entering politics, he was member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives in 1835. In 1847, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress, serving until 1849. He was again elected to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses, serving (1857-61). An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of medicine until his death.
