Born April 13, 1919 in Rice, Texas to Fred and Allie P. Hodge was raised in Electra, Texas. She graduated from Texas State College for Women (now TWU). While working in Dallas in 1941, she met and married Dr. Atticus James Gill who later served as Dean of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School from 1954 to 1967. They had three children. After 37 years of marriage, Dr. Gill died in a tragic accident at their ranch in Navarro County. During their marriage, she was famous for entertaining university regents, faculty, including Nobel Laureates, and friends. In addition to serving as president of the Faculty Women's Club and being active in the Medical Center Women's Club and the Pathology Wives Club, she was a 50-year member of the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance. She was also a member of the Dallas Women's Club, the Dallas Garden Club, the Craig Class, the Jane Douglas Chapter of the DAR, and Emanon Book Club.

When she married Dr. Carey G. King, Jr. in 1982, she discovered that her parents had been married in 1914 by his grandfather, Dr. William J. King in the Corsicana Presbyterian Church. Lucille was well known for her hospitality and cooking skills; she and Carey were known for raising vegetables and fruit trees, converting the produce into gifts for their many friends. Her love of art resulted in a 40 year study of oil painting and creation of scores of pictures. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jean and Dr. Gill.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 24 years, Dr. Carey G. King, Jr. She is also survived by son Frank Harrison Gill and wife Ann, daughter Dr. Mary Gill Bankhead and husband Jack, son James Hodge Gill and wife Lynn, six grandchildren: Leslie Martin; Doug Gill and wife Michelle; Lisa Coltman; Jamie Bankhead; Atticus Gill and wife Anna; Meredith McDaniel and husband Ben; and five great-grandchildren.
This loving blended family also includes step-sons Carey King and wife Mary; Christopher King and wife Cody Brady; step-daughter Elisabeth King; eight step-grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and physicians of Baylor Regional Medical Center Plano and the health aides from Carestaff for their compassion and care. A celebration of Lucille's life will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to the Atticus James Gill, M.D. Chair in Medical Science at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School or Chatfield Volunteer Fire Department, Chatfield, Texas 75105.
