Mrs. Walter L. Johnson Dies At Her Vestal Home

After Short Illness of Pneumonia-Funeral Arrangements Not Completed.

Endicott, Feb. 10- Mrs. Lou Andrews Johnson, wife of Walter L. Johnson, elder son of George F. Jonson, died of pneumonia Sunday morning at 9:45 o'clock at the Johnson Home at the Ideal Farms on the Willow Point road, east of the village of Vestal. Mrs. Johnson suffered from a cold early last week, and on Thursday pneumonia developed.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Johnson is survived by three daughters, Vivian of Schenectady and Mabel and Jane of Ideal Farms; one son, William Johnson of Buffalo; three sisters, Mrs. Charles A. Wilkerson and Mrs. Charles M. Walters, both of Endicott, and Mrs. Lottie Brock of Buffalo, and three brothers, F.L. Andrews of Johnson City, Clark Andrews of Otego and W.C.Andrews.

Arrangements for the funeral which will be private, have not been completed, it was said at Ideal Farms today. Burial will be in Riverhurst cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was an accomplished musician and possessed a well trained soprano voice, which was often heard in Binghamton and Endicott churches. She had a wide circle of friends both in this section and at Miami Beach, Fla., where the family had been accustomed to spend the winter, and where this year she had expected to spend several weeks after March 1.

Unadilla-Feb.12-Mr. and Mrs. F.J.VanCott,Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Hunt,and Mr. and Mrs. Leon J. VanCott were in Vestal,Wednesday,to attend the funeral of Mrs. Walter L. Johnson,daughter-in-law of George F. Johnson.

Mrs. Lou Andrews Johnson,wife of Walter L. Johnson,of Ideal Farms,Vestal,died at the family residence,Sunday morning,after a short illness with pneumonia,which lasted only since the previous Thursday.

Mrs. Johnson resided in Unadilla several years with Mr. and Mrs. John VanCott. She was one of a large family of children,and Mr. and Mrs. VanCott took a great fancy to her when she was about 19 months of age,and took her into their home. They became very much attached to her and eventually kept her about 20 years.

She was a fine musician and a beautiful singer. Her wonderful soprano voice charmed all who heard her,in Unadilla,Endicott and elsewhere and she was always glad to give her talents in church choirs or anywhere they were desired.

The private funeral was held Wednesday,February 12,at the Ideal Farms residence. Rev. Walter M. Higley officiated. Burial was in Riverhurst Cemetery,Endicott.

Besides her husband and son,William Johnson,of Buffalo,she is survived by three daughters,Mrs. Stanley Seigler,of Schenectady,Mabel and Jane Johnson,at home,and three sisters,Mrs. Charles Wilkenson and Mrs. Charles Walters of Endicott;and Mrs. Lottie Brock of Buffalo, and three brothers F. L. Andrews of Johnson City,Clark Andrews of Otego and W.C.Andrews.

Mrs. Johnson will be greatly missed in her home and the places in which so many loved to here her voice in song,and in the community where so many had known of her benevolence and kindness.

This obituary was found amongst family papers. Not sure which newspaper it came from.

A small death announcement was also listed in the Cortland Standard on Feb. 10, 1930.
