Rose M. Hagen, 88, of Hayward, died Aug. 21 at her home.

Rose Minnie Gehrts was born February 7, 1913 in Lake Benton, Minn., the daughter of Herman and Ida (Harder) Gehrts. She moved to the Hayward area when she was a young girl. She worked as a cook for many restaurants in Hayward including the Walker Hotel and Larson's Cafe. She was joined in marriage to Alfred Hagen on Sept. 21, 1949 in Hayward. She helped him operate the farm in the Round Lake area for many years. In the late 1960s she worked as a drill press operator for Screw Machine Engineering Company in Hayward. She enjoyed making unique rugs, sewing, gardening, and canning.

She is survived by three sons, Jim Banks, Cable, Ted (Mary Ann) Banks, Silver Bay, Minn., and Maurice Banks, Lakeville, Minn.; two daughters, Virginia (Harley) Hamblin, Hayward, and Mary Rose (Phillip) Scheldt, Dallas, Texas; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; son, Charlie Banks; two grandchildren, Jimmy Banks and Lorraine Hamblin; three brothers; and four sisters.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward with Rev. Cathy Hamblin officiating.

The Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
