Abbie Florence (Nordlind) Manchester, 95, of Spokane, WA, died Oct. 20, 2013 at Allen's Adult Family Home in Spokane Valley. She was born July 1, 1918 in Judith Gap, MT to William and Annie Nordlind. Abbie graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1938, and received her teaching certificate from the Lewiston State Normal School in 1941. Abbie started her teaching career in a one-room school house in Idaho before she moved to Washington where she taught in Ritzville, Colville, White Swan, and then at Jefferson Elementary in Spokane. She took time out to teach in Europe and toured many different countries while there. She retired from teaching in 1975. Abbie was an active member of South Hill Senior Center helping with Abbie's Attic. She also became an accomplished painter, sharing many of her works with her friends and family. Abbie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jack and Bill; sisters Eva, Jennie, Mary, Winona, Lavon, and Inez. Abbie is survived by her nephew Glen Barta of Spokane; Nieces June Glover of Kennewick, and Inez Nordlind of Coeur d'Alene; as well as many nephews and nieces in Montana; and many close friends in Spokane. Abbie will be laid to rest with her mother at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d'Alene has been entrusted to handle final arrangements.
