Before moving to East Hartford in the early 1980s, Richard had first lived in Hartford. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country during the Korean War; and prior to his retirement in 1994, he had been employed as a machinist for thirty-nine years at the Pratt & Whitney Division of United Technologies. In East Hartford, he was a communicant at Saint Mary's Church and had been a longtime member of the city's French Social Club.
Richard Lagassé peacefully passed away at age seventy-two at his home in East Hartford, surrounded by his loving family. In addition to his wife, he was survived by a son, Alfred Lagasse of Colchester, Connecticut; two daughters, Sharon (Lagassé) Beaulieu and her husband Bob of East Hartford, and Susan (Lagassé) Dickerson and her husband Tom of Indianapolis, Indiana; two grandchildren, Eric Beaulieu of Colchester, Connecticut, and Vicki Beaulieu of East Hartford; five great-grandchildren, Cody Beaulieu, and Jazmin, Qeanna, Donovan, and Kayla Rampassard; his brother, John Lagassé and his wife Jean of Willington, Connecticut; two sisters, Marie Bélanger and her husband Yvon of East Hartford, and Gloria Martin and her husband Roméo of Harwinton, Connecticut.
Richards's family received callers at the Callahan Funeral Home in East Hartford on Tuesday, March 28, from 6 to 9pm; and funeral services were held on Wednesday from the funeral home to Saint Mary's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11am, followed by committal services at Veterans Field in East Hartford's Silver Lane Cemetery. The family requested that memorial donations be made in Mr. Lagassé's memory to the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital or to the American Lung Association in East Hartford.
