Born 11 Nov 1923 in Attica, KS to Arthur E. and Mabel M. Benton. Siblings: Virginia Adams and Margaret Kennicott.

Grew up on a farm in Harper County, KS. Graduated from Attica High School in 1942 where he played the French horn (first chair Kansas All-State Band) and football.

Married Mary Louise Summers on July 24, 1948 in Colorado Springs, CO. Children: John Lee Benton, Richard Arthur Benton, Mary Ann McElhose.

Moved to Fort Collins in 1950. Continued his education in electronics and television repair. "Owned the first television in Fort Collins." [obit]

Member, First United Methodist Church. Active in Scouting and earned two of the highest awards in adult Scouting, the Bronze Big Horn and the Silver Beaver awards.
