Mrs. Joseph Machacek died at her home south of London on Wednesday, June 12th, 1907. She was aged 50 years 5 months and 17 days.

Anna Madera was born in Jefferson County, Wisconsin on Thursday, February 5, 1857 to proud parents, Franc and Anna Madera who were born in Bohemia and Wisconsin, respectively.

Anna was married to Joseph Machacek in St. Ansgar, Iowa on Tuesday, July 13th, 1875, and came at once to London to reside.

Deceased had been in poor health for about six months and, in January, she went to the Rochester hospital where she had a cancer removed but it proved incurable.

She had a very kind and beautiful disposition. Having no children of her own and being such a motherly woman, she raised two children, Glen and Mabel of her sister's, Josephine and Carrie; having taken them when infants. She leaves besides her husband, three Madera brothers, Joseph, John and Frank plus four sisters, Josephine, Antonia Madera Machacek, May and Evelyn Madera Mahachek, two sisters Frances and Carrie having died a few years ago, besides a large circle of friends.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Alborn, were held in the Bump Schoolhouse on Friday afternoon with interment at the Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle Township, Mower County. The sorry of the grief-stricken husband is great and the sympathy of many friends is extended to the relatives.

"How our hearts almost despair till the setting sun is low,
Feeling all our hopes have perished with the one we cherished so
One by one our hopes grow brighter as we near the shining shore,
For we know across the river waits the loved one gone before.
When we leave this world of changes, when we leave this world of care,
We shall find our missing loved one in our Father's mansion fair,
Yet again we hope to meet her when the day of life is fled,
When in Heaven with joy to greet her where no farewell tears are shed."

Among those from away who attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Joseph Machacek were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Madera of Plymouth, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Peshak, Laura Leona and Willard Peshak, Fillman Peshak, and Mr. Bohach of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Victor Peshak, Mr. Wyborney and Frank Cherney of Manley, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Mahachek, Louisa and Grace Mahachek of Austin and Mrs. Kuchera of Glenville.

There was a special magic in this union of a Machacek boy and a Madera girl. In fact, this was one of three such marriages which then provided eleven double cousins. The other marriages were: Amos & Evelyn Madera Mahachek and Charles & Mary Madera Mahachek.

A portion of the above data came from the Mower County Transcript, 19 June 1907, page 7, column 2 under heading "LONDON."
