Mr. Middlebrooks joined the U.S Army at age 17, proudly served during WWII and was a recipient of The Purple Heart. He served forty years in law enforcement with Dallas County Sheriff's Department and The City of Selma Police Department and the last twenty years as a Dallas County Environmental officer.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ruth Middlebrooks, children; Mary Calloway, Johnny Middlebrooks (Anita), Annie McHugh (Jamie Horton), Wayne Middlebrooks (Debbie), grandchildren; Kim Peake (Lee), Shannon Pipkin (Kevin), Tammy Sims (Hart), Stacy Middlebrooks, Brandon McHugh (Kim), Kerri Chappelle (Chet), Dr. Erik Middlebrooks (Sara), Zachary Middlebrooks and thirteen great-grandchildren.
