Dorothy Jean Burd, 87, of Buffalo Township, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, surrounded by her family at Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia, Cabot. She was born July 5, 1926, in New Kensington, daughter of the late Leonard B. and Dorothy M. (Hufford) Frampton. Mrs. Burd was a homemaker and a member of Center United Methodist Church of Fawn Township, where she belonged to the Women's Group. She was also the treasurer of the Buffalo Township Senior Citizens organization. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, reading and traveling. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Leonard J. (Jane) Burd, of Buffalo Township; seven grandchildren, Michele (John) Franklin, Leonard (Regan) Burd Jr., Kristine Woodward, Matthew Durandetta, William (Mylissa) Rodgers, Carrie (Daniel) McConahy and Kathy Rodgers; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Burd, who died Nov. 13, 1977; two daughters, Linda Thompson and Aleta Rodgers; and her sister, Norma "Pat" Grubbs. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth St., Freeport, 724-295-3100. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. James H. Ritchie Jr., officiating. Burial and committal service will follow at the Sarverville Cemetery, Buffalo Township. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Dennis J. Daugherty Funeral Home, Freeport. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's honor to Good Samaritans Hospice Unit, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
