She was the first wife of Henry Disston. She married Disston shortly after he opened his first shop. The couple had been married only a year when twins, two girls, Mary Ann and Martha, were born to them. The twins lived only a a short time. To assure the seriously ill Amanda the quiet she needed, her physician told Disston to stop saw production; the factory was in their basement. Her death left Disston fiancially and emotionally drained.
