Carleton Howard Scott, 93, of St. Paris died on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 6:00 PM in Hearth & Home of Urbana. He was born August 8, 1920, the son of Charles Ralph and Emma Wilkins Scott, who preceded him in death. He was married for 65 years to Esther Maurice Scott, who preceded him in death on August 20, 2012. He is survived by daughters Shirley Scott of Urbana; Carolyn (Paul) Leporini of Martinsburg, West Virginia; Connie (Dennis) Plank of Humboldt, Tennessee; Barbara (Michael) Sell of Urbana; Beverly (Daniel) Rambo of Oxford, Ohio; and son Timothy (Amber) Scott of Charleston, Arkansas. He is also survived by his grandchildren and their spouses: Joseph and Iliana Leporini, Christopher and Elisa Leporini, Jason and Becky Plank, Esther and David Bledsoe, Shawn and Alicia Sell, Joshua and Christina Sell, Kelly Sell, Chelsea Rambo, Grace Rambo, Eli and Julie Scott, as well as great-grandchildren: Scott and Kaelin Leporini, Lucie Harrison, Marco and Leo Leporini, Ally and Jarrett Plank, Grayson and Finnley Bledsoe, and Keegan Sell. He is also survived by sisters Miriam Shaffner and Violet Bailey as well as brothers Richard (Dorothy) Scott, Ernest Scott, and Gail (Joyce) Scott. Many cousins, nephews, and nieces also survive. His sister Dorothy Eaton and brothers Charles, Donald, Harlan, Wayne, William, Max, and Lawrence preceded him in death. Carleton graduated from Concord School in 1939. He served with the United States Army, with the 11th Armored "Thunderbolt" Division 1942-1946, including service in Europe during which he received the Combat Infantry Badge for gallant conduct and bravery under fire. He retired in 1985 after 20 years at Howard Paper Mills in Urbana. Always a farmer, he chose to spend his life on the land: until 1965 at a farm on River Road and on Ford Road for the past 48 years on his own property, affectionately known as The Farm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the ATKINS-SHIVELY FUNERAL HOME, 216 S Springfield Street, Saint Paris, Ohio with Reverend Cheryl Siegenthaler presiding. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, N St Rt 235, Conover, Ohio.
