James was born in 1823 or 1824. James was the oldest son of Anderson L. Logan and his wife, Etha M. Rogers. He married James Birks' widow; Mercy Turner. Mercy was one of fourteen children born to John Turner and his wife, Mary Lucas. James and Mercy had five known children. James and Mercy farmed near Laurel (Jefferson Township) in Marshall County, Iowa. James served in the Mexican War. He died around 1869.

If gravestone is still standing, it is no longer decipherable. Gravestone could not be located but several very weathered stones stand in Logan plots, some plots have no stones.
