Rose and the four mostly adult children came to the U. S. aboard the "Atlas" in the 1880's. It is assumed that Peter Barker arrived in the U. S. within the year or so prior to the arrival of his family.
Peter is reputed to have made a relative fortune in buying real estate in the Green Street, Jamaica Plain neighborhood. He reportedly lost all his money and properties. Late in his life, he was listed as a gardener, and drove a horse-drawn wagon for the Little Sisters of the Poor, according to his granddaughter Ellen E. (Barker) Maxwell.
Thomas, who reportedly began the first football (soccer) team in the Boston area, is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dedham, MA, with his wife Elizabeth Elinor (Boomer), and four of his eight children.
For work, Thomas was a foreman in various weaving mills/companies in the Boston-Jamaica Plain area. At one point, he was a foreman in a fisherman's net company on Atlantic Avenue, Boston.
