Lester, 90, of Chelsea, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the Chelsea Retirement Community Towsley Village. He was born, along with his twin brother, to Edward and Ella (Stuberg) Wakefield.

He served in WWII as an Army Air Corps P-47 Thunderbolt pilot and flew with the Puerto Rican Air National Guard in the 1950s.

He graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and completed advanced studies at the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Phoenix, AZ. He worked for the National City Bank of New York as an inspector of the bank's branches in Central and South America.

While stationed in Puerto Rico, he met his future wife, Connie, from his home state of Minnesota. He and Connie later settled in Minneapolis, where he first worked for the Burroughs Corporation and then started his own business providing accounting, consulting and tax services.

During his adult life, he became active in his home churches: Christ Presbyterian, Edina, MN, Covenant Presbyterian and New Hope Presbyterian in Ft. Myers, FL. He taught Sunday school, ushered, was active in Stephen Ministries, and served as an elder and a deacon.

During his 27 years at Cross Creek Country Club in Florida, he served seven years on the condo board as president and enjoyed the great golf, neighbors, and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Connie (McGuiggan) Wakefield; his children: Gregory (Susan) Wakefield of Ann Arbor, MI, Leigh (Karin) Wakefield of Moorhead, MN, and Radleigh (Tracy) Wakefield of Union, KY; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Katherine, Patrick, Tessa, Radleigh, Paige, Jeremy and Joshua; a niece, Carolyn Idso of Arizona, and nephews, Bruce and Alvin Wakefield of Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his siblings: Chester (his twin), Charles, Olive Quigley, and William.

A Memorial Service was held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Silver Maples Retirement Community in Chelsea with Pastor Jeff Crowder officiating.
