Shirley Walker Dunbar, 76, of Butler passed away Wednesday at her home after an illness.
She was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Evans City, the daughter of the late Earl B. Walker and the late Bertha (Yund) Walker.
She was a graduate of Butler High School and Clarion University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught biology at Butler High School.
She was a member of the Christ Community United Methodist Church, the Irene Stacey Board, the AAUW and the Butler Literary Club. She was the past president of Butler Mental Health Association and the League of Women Voters, and she was a former member of the Fellowship of Churches.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas R. Dunbar, who she married July 23, 1955; a daughter, Susan Bailey and her husband, Kevin, of Warrenton, Va.; two sons, Brady Richard Dunbar of Marienville and David Robert Dunbar and his wife, Kristin, of Slippery Rock; a granddaughter, Jessica Dunbar; and a sister, Betty Westerman and her husband, Laverle, of Evans City.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Jo Dunbar; a sister; and a brother.
DUNBAR - Friends of Shirley Walker Dunbar, who died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 205 N. Duffy Road, with the Rev. Howard F. Burrell officiating. Private interment will be in the Butler County Memorial Park.
Contributions may be made to the Christ Community United Methodist Church, 206 N. Duffy Road, Butler, PA. 16001 or to the VNA Hospice, 160 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
